Frequently Asked Questions

WHO IS IDENTEC ? Identec is a privately owned, limited liability British company. Our Headquarters are situated near the City of Durham in the North of England, our sales office is based in Wiltshire. Production is split between the Durham facility and our joint venture facility in Cixi City in The Peoples Republic of China.
WHAT WE DO ?

We design and manufacture an extensive range of transponders (tags) and decoders (readers) which are used in numerous automatic identification systems.

WHERE ARE THE
PRODUCTS USED ?
To faithfully identify, without intervention, tagged individual people, products or vehicles as they move en-mass through the detection zones created by the readers. The product can provide directional information relevant to each tag. Applications include:- security access control, safety registration, asset tracking, time & attendance registration, process control and sports timing.
WHAT IS NEEDED ? A tag must be carried by every item which is to be monitored. A reader antenna must be set up at every point where tags are to be detected. Communication from the reader to the management system will vary dependent on the systems requirements.
HOW DOES IT WORK ? The tags broadcast a scrambled transmission once they enter the detection zone of the reader. The patented communications between tag and reader ensure every tag is faithfully identified irrespective of how many enter the detection zone simultaneously.
IDENTEC'S PEDIGREE ? The technology was conceived in 1982 and patents and improvements have occurred up to the present time. High profile reference sites exist throughout the world, with product shipments to over 65 countries. More about Identec history you can read at our History page.
